Has the "law" (nomos 3551), which includes the Old Testament laws, really been abolished? Galatians 5:18 basically "spells out" the answer! "But IF (did you just see that HUGE IF word?) you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law." (not under the penalty of the law if you break it) The opposite would mean that if you ARE NOT LED by the Holy Spirit (or don't even have it), YOU ARE UNDER THE LAW! (the "whole 9 yards" -- dietary, festival, multiple tithing laws, no frivolous divorcing and remarrying, etc. Relax, the Mosaic laws are not really burdensome. Obeying them can even make you healthier, richer, and give you a little more free time by resting regularly on the Saturday Sabbath and other holy days. Are you going to tell me that righteous Christians led by the Holy Spirit need not obey the law when everyone else, including the worst sinner, has to since they are specifically "under the law" according to Galatians 5:18? Remember, that verse, turned around, says that you ARE, one more time, ARE under the law if you are not led by the Spirit (Holy Spirit). (With the death of Jesus Holy Spirit led Christians are now no longer under the penalty of the law, but they still, of course, have to obey the law, just like the worst sinners have to obey it according to Galatians 5:18). Acts 5:32: "..... the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who OBEY Him" reveals that the ONLY way you can get the Holy Spirit is by OBEYING THE LAW! (Both Old and New Testaments, after repentance and baptism by complete immersion in water [an outward sign of conversion]) The word law (nomos 3551) used in the Bible has as its first definition "any law whatsoever." That means it is NONSPECIFIC. So "law" in the Bible does not exclude any set of divine laws, which also means that the Mosaic laws ARE INCLUDED in the word "law." Romans 7:4: "..... you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, ....." Paul said that YOU have become dead to the law. He DID NOT say that the law is dead. Baptized Christians now with the Holy Spirit are "dead to" or immune from the penalty of the law if they break it. The only way the law has been "abolished," or more correctly the penalty of the law has been abolished or suspended for you individually is if you are fully obeying (or reasonably trying to obey) divine laws supplemented by the guidance of the Holy Spirit (this is combined with grace from the perfect, sacrificial death of Jesus). When righteous Christians occasionally sin through carelessness, accident, etc., upon further repentance their sins can be forgiven, and they do not have to pay the former penalty of the law, which could even be death sometimes. Such Christians do not have to sacrifice animals, etc. anymore for forgiveness of their sins since Jesus sacrificially died for our sins. The original Greek word for "touch" is haptomai, defined by Thayer as "....... to fasten to ....... adhere to, cling to, ....... to touch ......." In accordance with other commentators Thayer further defines haptomai as "....... have no intercourse with the Gentiles, no fellowship in their heathenish practices ....... the things not to be touched appear to be both women (unbelievers) and certain kinds of food (forbidden food) ....... " The original Greek word for "unclean" in the above verse is akathartos, which in accordance with Thayer is defined as "....... that which must be abstained from according to the LEVITICAL law, lest impurity be contracted ......." which of course would include food. How in the world can mainstream "Christians" now declare "clean" and edible what will STILL be unclean over 1,000 years from now (after the millenium, Isaiah 66:17) and was so unclean long ago about 1,000 years BEFORE the codification of the Mosaic laws that EVEN NOAH HIMSELF recognized some animals as clearly forbidden to eat (Genesis 7:2,8, 8:20), according to specific Biblical verses? Since 3 different tithes (you, the reader, be honest, and admit 3 different tithes [Deuteronomy 12:17,18,14:22-26,28,29, and 26:12 are not sitting in the Bible just for nothing]) are in the Mosaic laws, so which tithe did Jesus refer to? It must have been all 3 tithes!! Since Jesus did not specifically identify which tithe of the 3 DIFFERENT KINDS OF TITHES contained within the Mosaic laws should be paid, payment of the third year food tithe for the hungry (Deuteronomy 26:12, 14:28-29) plus the regular and festival tithe is obviously still mandatory because the scribes and Pharisees in these verses ROUTINELY OBSERVED ALL THREE KINDS of tithes !!! Those scribes and Pharisees could afford to pay all 3 tithes because they were divinely blessed financially for obedience to the tithe laws. We need to observe all 3 tithes to be righteous, also. Luke 18:12: "........... I give tithes of all that I possess." Although Jesus criticized the tithing Pharisee for being snobbishly proud in this verse, the fact that the Pharisee paid, to be truly righteous, tithes in the plural sense provides additional confirmation of more than one kind of tithe. If you say that you cannot afford to pay more than one tithe, it may be because your past failure to pay those extra tithes has kept your income low due to financial curses. If you initially want to pay only 2 different tithes, pay the first, regular tithe and also pay the third year food tithe, too, with your next paycheck. Verse 23 means that in the distant future all people everywhere will be forced to attend church services on Saturdays, not Sundays, even if they and their ministers disagree. Isaiah 65:17,25 and 66:22 show that these two chapters, where the words "swine's flesh" and "Sabbath" appear, refer to a FUTURE age that has not yet arrived, a time when the earth will be literally reshaped into a new earth, an age when Jesus Christ will have returned a second time in great glory. In this future new age even some animals will be changed since 65:25 reveals that lions and wolves will peacefully eat grass like sheep, instead of meat. In that future age the Mosaic dietary laws will obviously be mercilessly enforced as well as seventh day Saturday rest and worship. ................ With reference to Isaiah 66:17,22,23 either A) the Lord is not truthful or He talks about what He is not knowledgeable about, or B) He abolished the dietary laws and will re-establish them again in the future and also changed the day of rest from Saturday to Sunday or allowed it to be changed to Sunday, then will change it back to Saturday in the future, or C) the Mosaic dietary laws were never abolished and the original day of sanctified rest on Saturday memorializing the wonderful six days of creation also was never abolished or changed. A is of course false because God does not lie and His talk certainly is always perfectly knowledgeable. B makes no sense, especially since there is no Biblical evidence for it. Common sense, which is that sense common to most people, seems to want to begin pointing more in the general direction of C than either A or B. Don't you agree that the only conclusion is that C is true? This verse refers to the 7 day Feast of Unleavened Bread. This is not just a suggestion or a recommendation or a metaphor by Paul, who was never Jewish, but from the Israeli tribe of Benjamin, a converted Christian. This is an actual reminder by Paul, an apostolic saint if there ever was one, to literally continue faithfully observing the Levitical week long eating of unleavened bread to remind us to not be excessively proud, arrogant, or otherwise unrighteous. Leaven when added to bread "puffs up" and makes it rise when baked. Eating flat, unleavened bread is an annual, gentle reminder (which can be tasty with good recipes) to be more humble, less unreasonably proud, less egotistically "puffed up," and therefore more righteous. ...................... Since this was in the fall, it must have referred to the Feast of Tabernacles, another Mosaic law the first century Christians diligently observed. They did not consider it abolished. Acts 20:6: "But we sailed away from Philippi after the Days of Unleavened Bread, and in five days ....." --- New King James Version. This verse shows that Paul himself even well after the death of Jesus continued to obediently keep the 7 day Festival of Unleavened Bread. .................. This is still more evidence that the Apostles continued to obey Old Testament laws such as the fasting Day of Atonement, called Yom Kippur by the Jews, a day that all Christians today still need to keep. ......................The words in MATTHEW 24:20: "And pray that your flight may not be in winter OR ON THE SABBATH (Saturday) DAY" shows convincingly that we need to still avoid work on every Saturday. Doesn't that verse basically mean "You certainly must not work on Saturdays (excluding rare emergencies, food preparation, church attendance, etc.)?" YES, THAT VERSE DEFINITELY MEANS THAT!! Isn't "flight" work and obviously stressful activity that is the opposite of rest? The Sabbath, which always refers to Saturday in the Bible, has not been abolished nor temporarily suspended because this verse refers to the future, the time of Armageddon, that has not occurred yet. Why would Jesus refer to the Sabbath so emphatically, that we are commanded to pray about it, if the Sabbath was not still extremely important? Hebrews 4:9: "So that there is still a SABBATH - KEEPING for the people of God." --- Bible in Basic English. "A Sabbath - keeping" strongly implies a continued physical keeping of the weekly Sabbath that includes a future millenial rest for Christians. Matthew 24:20 therefore also implies that many other Mosaic laws are still valid. Not one but two verses in Exodus 31, verses 14 and 15 warn that death was and very much still is even today the potential penalty for deliberately working on Saturdays according to Matthew 7:21-23 and 13:41-42. The painful death by stoning of someone caught working on a Saturday is recorded in Numbers 15:32-36, which is another example or reminder to this very day of the potential future consequences of breaking only one of the laws of Moses. Philippians 2:12: "........ work out your own salvation with fear and trembling," 1 Peter 4:18: "And if the righteous scarcely be saved ........," and James 2:19 which says that even the wretched, lost demons tremble when they think about God, are not just idle words when you consider the speed and mercilessness of the above couple's execution and the agonizingly lethal punishment of the man who worked on a Saturday. Our Lord does not change, and He is the same today as He was in the past. Malachi 3:6: "For I am the Lord, I change not; ........." .................. Revelation 20:12: "........ And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books." The word "books" refers to the books in the Bible. .................... The ORIGINAL GREEK SAYS that this verse refers to our past record or evidence of sins we have already committed, not the actual laws of the Old Testament, which is a big difference. 3) Ephesians 2:15: "Having abolished in His flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; ........" The ORIGINAL GREEK SAYS that the above verse refers to over-righteous, man made "commandments," not the Mosaic laws, which again is a big difference. 4) Romans 14:14,20: "......... there is nothing unclean of itself: ........ 20 ......... all things are clean ........." The ORIGINAL GREEK SAYS that verse 14 says that nothing is ceremonially polluted, defiled, or unclean for spiritual sacrifice. The original Greek says that verse 20 refers to physically clean things "free from impurities, without blemish, and spotless." Neither verse has anything to do with forbidden foods listed by Moses. 5) Mark 7:18-19: "......... whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, 19 because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?" The ORIGINAL GREEK SAYS that these verses, in accordance with verses 2-5, refer to the Pharisees' man made ceremonial ritual of the meticulous removal of physical impurities (dirt) from food. Mark 7:18-19 does not refer to Biblically "unclean" or Biblically edible foods. Incredibly, antiSemitic biased translators have actually succeeded in the brazen insertion of the following or similar very misleading comment at the end of Mark 7:19 in most translations: "In this statement, Jesus declared all foods clean." The original Greek definitely DOES NOT contain that comment, and it does not appear in one of the most accurate translations, the King James Bible. 6) Acts 10:12,13,15: "......... all kinds of four footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. 13 And a voice came to him, 'Rise, Peter; kill and eat' ......... 15 'What God has cleansed you must not call common." The previous three verses were only a figurative comparison that Peter could easily understand as God taught him that nonJewish people should not be considered unclean, as verse 28 clearly shows what the context of chapter 10 is about. After recognizing the purpose of the dream Peter was able to baptize the first gentiles. Acts 11:18 further confirms the context of chapter 10. Peter never concluded that he could now eat any kind of animal even after seeing the dream three times, and chapter 10 certainly is not proof that the dietary laws have been abolished. 7) The ORIGINAL GREEK SAYS that two (2) Sabbaths occurred between the burial and resurrection of Jesus, which when combined with Jesus' own words that He would be in the tomb exactly 3 days and 3 nights, no more, and no less, plus 11 other verses specifying that Jesus would rise on the THIRD day, demands that He was resurrected on a Saturday before sunset, instantly collapsing any Biblical support for Sunday rest observance.
