| This page with its link, VERSES MAINSTREAMERS USE, is a quick reference, easy to study page to better understand verses often incorrectly interpreted to mean that most Mosaic laws have been nullified. Pro-law debaters on the religious internet forums will find this page, after it is completed, a rich source of persuasive information. There are far more explicitly pro-Mosaic law verses in the Bible than seemingly anti-law verses, and when you take the time and effort to carefully, exhaustively analyze with an unbiased, open mind every single "anti-law" verse, one by one, it becomes clear that they are not, beyond reasonable doubt, referring to the actual nullification of most Old Testament laws. To my knowledge no one else on the internet yet has completed a page similar to this one listing the vast majority if not every pro-law verse and every seemingly anti-law verse in the entire New Testament in the order from Matthew to Revelation, on one page. It will eventually list almost all New Testament verses, estimated to be over 200, indicating the old Mosaic laws (dietary, festival, multiple tithing, etc.) still need to be diligently observed, and it will also list every single commonly used controversial New Testament verse that initially appears, in the sometimes anti-Mosaic law biased English translations, to say that Christians no longer need to obey those Old Testament laws. You will be able to see that the pro-Mosaic law verses, when properly explained if necessary, overwhelmingly outnumber the seemingly anti-Mosaic law verses, and that the apparently anti-Mosaic law verses are simply incomplete or "partial" verses that cannot be used by themselves, standing alone, ignoring the pro-law verses or ignoring the complete, original Greek, to prove the old laws have been set aside. One by one, the controversial verses will be explained to show that they do not conclusively indicate the Mosaic laws, except generally the animal and grain sacrifice and circumcision laws, were abolished. The New Testament actually teaches that all New Testament laws (refinements or improvements in the Mosaic laws) as well as most Old Testament, Mosaic laws not only need to be obeyed by Christians, but strictly obeyed. Relax, the Mosaic laws are not really burdensome, and one of them, the week long "get away from it all, eat, drink, and be merry" epicurean Feast of Tabernacles, is an especially true delight that should become even better with each passing year. Fun is even more delightful and "guiltless" when you are commanded to have that fun. That feast and the long, delightful trip to the feast site usually in a distant city is more fun than Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, New Years Day, Easter, and the Fourth of July combined. All verses on this page are from the New King James Version. The word "law" appearing below is nomos, Strong's number 3551, defined as at least including the Mosaic laws. The word "commandments" refers to the Ten Commandments that are a part of the Mosaic laws, including the one to rest on the Saturday Sabbath. "Pending" means that I have not yet conveniently had the time to explain it in my own words, which I need to do to avoid plagiarizing material from others. While the author of this page does not necessarily claim to be an expert on anything, by reading the explanations given, after your own follow-up research, it should become evident that what is presented is reasonable and accurate, which is a lot more than can be said for similar explanations by many recognized theologians. .............................. This refers to the 24 hour waterless and foodless fast required during the Day of Atonement, called Yom Kippur by the Jews. The Greek word for "Fast" is nesteia, Strong's number 3521, refers specifically to the Day of Atonement. Other tribes of ancient Israel such as the Benjamites also kept this fast. Paul was not a Jew. He was a Benjamite. 34) Acts 28:23: "..... persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, ....." 35) Romans 2:13: "(for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified;" 36) Romans 2:18: "..... and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law." 37) Romans 3:20: "..... for by the law is the knowledge of sin." 38) Romans 3:31: "Do we then make void the law through faith? Briefly, this verse is addressed, basically on a one time basis, to only a very tiny, select group of Christians, the Apostles, or those who would be given the apostolic power to heal people of ailments. It is not addressed to the general Christian population, so this verse does not conclusively show that the Mosaic dietary laws have been permanently nullified. It is simply too risky to try to use this one very weak verse to discredit the forbidden food laws, opposed by a plethora of far more plainer verses upholding the dietary restrictions. 5) Luke 16:16: "The law and the prophets were until John. Explanation: click verses then go to 26. 13) Acts 15:19: "..... we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God." This page began development on about December 19, 2011 and should be basically completed by September, 2012, with occasional improvements thereafter as my knowledge of the Bible increases. Seemingly anti-Mosaic law verses well in excess of an estimated 99 will ultimately be refuted and adequately explained. | |
